In order to facilitate the improvement of energy efficiency in public and private sectors, as well as to ensure the information availability on these issues for residents, Society „Zemgale Regional Energy Agency” (ZREA) was established in the end of 2008 with the assistance by the European Commission’s programme “Intelligent Energy for Europe”. The Agency started its activity in March of 2009.
The establishment of ZREA is the initiative by Jelgava City Council, involving four other municipalities of the region Jēkabpils, Bauska, Auce and Ozolnieki, companies – district heating company "Fortum Jelgava" Ltd. and a housing maintenance management company "Jelgavas Nekustamā īpašuma pārvalde" Ltd., as well as two other societies - "Zinātnes inovāciju un testēšanas centrs" (Scientific Innovation and Testing Centre) and "Zemgales reģionālais nevalstisko organizāciju atbalsta centrs" (Zemgale Regional NGO Support Centre).
Objectives
To promote energy efficiency and use of renewable energy resources in public and private sectors as well as to ensure general availability of information on these issues.
